You Are What You Eat
You may have heard this expression before. And there is a basic truth here: we are a complex organism of cells regulated by metabolic processes which requires fuel for energy and nutrition to maintain life. In short, we are as healthy as the food we feed ourselves. Is the food we eat basically "dead" food that has vitamins and minerals processed out and then replaced with inorganic synthetic vitamins and minerals ? It is important that you learn the difference between organic and inorganic compounds and the impact at the cellular level. Here is a powerful statement from the book, Power Juices, Super Drinks:
"There are more doctors and scientists alive in the world today than there were 100 years ago, yet we have more cancers. What has changed? Arguably, it is our diet of mass-market, processed foods. We take good whole foods such as grains, remove the germ (because it's perishable), remove the bran, bleach out the uneven color, and add synthetic vitamins to replace the ones removed, all in an effort to achieve a longer shelf life for the product. Have we exchanged shelf life for human life?"
Food is Medicine! That is, organic and non-GMO food, which is what your body needs for normal, healthy function. This is the exact opposite of drug-based medicine. It is quite a challenge for the average person who typically eats commercial food to change their diet to all natural and organic. But with determination it can be done. Slow, steady progress is usually the best approach rather than a radical and immediate change. It takes time for changes to become a matter of habit. You will need to develop new food tastes. It will likely change some of your shopping habits. Welcome to the growing community of Health Junkies. As I said, this is a journey from disease to health, so I am constantly learning and growing as a person. I feel it is beneficial to all to post links and resources to other sites which are promoted by those who are further along the path than I am. This is called networking, and is based on the principle of sharing and helping others. I am still researching and considering which diet will be best for, not just my cancer, but also my lifestyle. So far I am leaning towards either the Gerson or Ketogenetic diet - both of which have proven very effective in reversing cancer. As this page evolves I will post my research on both diets. But I have found a great resource that I want to share, and the site has many recipes - I recommend that you check out ThriveLiving.
A Ketogenetic diet is based on the principle of ketosis. Ketosis is a metabolic state in which some of the body's energy supply come from ketone bodies in the blood, in contrast to a state of glycolysis in which blood glucose provides most of the energy. Why is this important in regards to cancer? Because a cancer cell has damaged DNA which limits it's only fuel source to glucose - which is blood sugar converted from mostly carbohydrates. Watch the video below for an excellent explanation of ketosis and cancer.
Here also is a link to a playlist of videos for Ketogenetic recipes and how to prepare meals.
I like to post both sides of an issue if I believe the opposite view has some merit, as it does here. Watch this short video interviewing Dr. Nicholas Gonzales, one of the top alternative cancer doctors in the world. He gives a summary and history of the Ketogenetic diet and cautions using it as a cancer protocol. This really underscores the benefit of finding and working with an experienced holistic doctor who can help you develop a cancer protocol that works for your body - not all diets work the same for everyone.
Max Gerson Diet
Max Gerson was a German-born American physician who developed the Gerson Therapy, a dietary-based alternative cancer treatment that he claimed could cure cancer and most chronic, degenerative diseases. The best place to begin your research is the Gerson Institute itself, as they have many educational videos and research links. My initial assessment of the Gerson diet for treating cancer is that you must be motivated and determined to follow the protocol strictly, and for best results, work with a Gerson trained practitioner.
